Donations Needed

When you donate to the Wake ReStores, you are supporting the mission of Habitat Wake.

The Habitat for Humanity of Wake County ReStore accepts donations of gently worn, usable, structurally-sound building materials, appliances, and furniture. In order to better serve our customers, we do have specific criteria for acceptable goods. All donations are tax-deductible to the full extent allowed by law. Please follow the general guidelines below. If you’re unsure if your donation meets the criteria please call 919-744-2420.

Please note: Donation criteria list is subject to change.  Some donations may be declined due to safety concerns, facility limitations or marketability.

Appliances  

Must be 10 years old or newer, working, with all knobs

  • Electric ranges and ovens (no used gas ranges)
  • Range hoods
  • Range tops
  • Refrigerators/Freezers
  • Washers/Dryers (no gas dryers)
  • HVAC units, 5 years old or newer
  • Dishwashers and water heaters (must be dated after 2014)*
*Please note due to new EPA regulations, we cannot accept dishwashers or certain refrigerators unless they are certified lead free.
 

Architectural Items

  • Columns
  • Mantels
  • Porch posts

Cabinetry

In good condition with doors attached and drawers intact

  • Full kitchen and bathroom sets
  • Individual pieces
  • Counter tops – corian and granite (no formica/laminate unless they are straight sections, no holes)

Doors

Residential only

  • Entryway units
  • Exterior or interior – no rot, cracks, or missing panes
  • Pre-hung or door slabs, no taller than 84”

Electronics (must be in working condition)

  • LCD/touch screen monitors
  • Televisions (flat panel only)
  • Home theater equipment: receivers, speakers, DVD players
  • Video game consoles, games, and accessories
  • Laptops and computer towers

Flooring

  • Hardwood/Parquet flooring, 100 sq. ft. or more
  • New carpet and Rugs 10’x10’ or larger
  • New padding
  • New vinyl tiles or vinyl sheets (should be in boxes, not loose)
  • Slate, marble and ceramic tile

Furniture

In good condition and structurally sound; if upholstered, be free of pet hair, tears, stains, and odor 

  • Bedroom furniture 
  • Book shelves, case goods
  • Tables, chairs, coffee tables, entertainment centers
  • Couches, love seats and ottomans
  • Patio furniture
  • Pianos (drop-off only, no pick-up available)

Hardware

  • Complete sets of door hardware
  • Any quantity of hinges, nails, screws, hangers, etc.

Lighting

  • Fixtures and ceiling fans (must be in working condition)

Lumber and Sheetrock

  • Dimensional, 6’ or longer
  • Trim and molding, 6’ or longer
  • Sheetrock and plywood, 4’ x 8’ or larger
  • Bricks (must call to schedule)
  • No scrap lumber, no materials with nails, no concrete on wood

Mattresses

Must be in good condition, have no rips, stains, or structural defects.

*Please note that we can only pick up mattresses if we are also picking up other donation items.

Paint and Wall Coverings

  • Latex paint only, full cans and non-rusted
  • Wallpaper, borders, tools, and glue

Plumbing 

  • Bathtubs and shower enclosures – new tubs only,  except cast iron (only cast iron we can accept is clawfoot and easily accessible)
  • Sinks – kitchen and bath (without rust or cracks)
  • Toilets (residential only, must be less than 1.6 gpf)
  • Miscellaneous plumbing hardware, fittings, pipes

Tools

Must be in working condition

  • Garden tools 
  • Hand and power tools
  • Lawnmowers

Windows

  • Shutters and blinds
  • Windows – double-hung, picture, or bay (complete, without rot, cracks, or foggy glass)

Items we do not accept: 

  • Analog thermostats
  • CRT computer monitors 
  • Commercial lighting and furniture
  • Clothing, bed linens, and curtains
  • Garage doors
  • Executive desks (can accept when less than 4ft long and in a residential setting)
  • Formica counter tops with holes or L-shaped
  • Garbage disposals
  • Hard-wired fluorescent lights
  • Hazardous materials (solvents, strippers, oil based items, anti-freeze)
  • Infant car seats, cribs, strollers, toys
  • Lumber less than 6′ long
  • Moldy materials
  • Office cubicles
  • Outdoor play sets
  • Pianos (drop-off only)
  • Printers
  • Sleeper sofas or futons
  • Storm windows
  • Shower doors
  • Sliding glass doors (unless vinyl and insulated)
  • Toilets larger than 1.6 gpf
  • Tube TVs
  • Unframed mirrors or glass
  • Used gas appliances
  • Uncovered fluorescent lights
